Nihonismus, a new form of art
Alexander Snehotta of Kimratshofen is an artist from the quarter rich in tradition, Maxvorstadt-Schwabing, in Munich where he also lives and works. He is 1st executive board of the artists’ association Kunstrefugium e.V. and a member of the artist union "color chimeras". Within the last few years the freelance artist already had quite a number of groups and individual exhibitions which partly received the attention of the press. After a long search he has found or created his personal style which he mentions according to the name of Japan in the national language "Nihonismus", a type of the abstract painting which takes strong redresses on the art forms of old Japan.
Interview:
"I have been interested in Japan already since early childhood. I think it has started at that time when I have seen 'shogun' of James Clavell as a film first and read then the book "to this" the first time. For every boy knights are interesting; it rather dragged me out to to the samurai with their strict code of honor. After this a little banal first admission I started to get into the Japanese history studied the culture, life attitude, philosophy and religion of the country of the rising sun. The country has influenced me strongly in my career and conception of oneself. For many years I have operated Iai-Do, the art of the sword ache and Schattenkämpfens with the Katana, the typical samurai sword, of which I have a quite considerable collection now, now already. Furthermore I practice regularly the meditation techniques the Za Zen Buddhism. Not least has my fascination persuaded me of it for the country of the gods one extended to do Japanreise on which I could realize and deepen my artistic ambitions on the spot. I was lucky to be instructed by some masters of one who taught me different essential features of the Cha-nu yo (tea ceremony), the Ikebana and the flourish painting in the context of the Zen Buddhism meditation. Just this flows into my work now.
Back in Germany I deepened this, what I could acquire into further during a year, course with different private tutors, however, didn't come onto the idea until there of using the acquired knowledge and skills in another form than the traditional ones. In the course of the year 2008 the thought of walking along new ways of the art after my previous pictures seemed increasing there been to me as flat and somehow sometimes matured more and more in me. I lusted to create a little new one after the one whom no-one else has still done until there. I remembered the yugen and made some tests that way on paper and canvas which, however, didn't correspond to my ideas at first. The breakthrough came, as me, from the year 1992 an old work fell into its hands: few, simple but meaningful colors -- principal brown tones, red, black and gold. A variety of works arose after this inspiration within few weeks. I work in mixing technology what wants to be called that different techniques and painting means are used. Then gold bronze I paint the flat coats exclusively with natural colors manufactured and work " damp into/on damp " with Indian ink, thinned acrylic paint, shellac and different bronze, predominant. The flax walls started grow and I think with few specific brush lines, Auftröpfelungen and Verwischungen I have found a basic form now which is definitely worth getting a name of its own. Followed the name of Japan in the national language, Nihon, I describe this art direction as a Nihonismus. The Nihonismus is an abstract painting for me with redress on old Japanese art forms in which the meditative aspect also takes effect particularly, said quite briefly. My pictures aren't the looking only consideration objects but rather either meditation helps this one shall move and spirit open his into certain atmospheres. At present, I work exclusively in this technique, experiment, however, on other fields furthermore. I don't neglect my heraldic studies and medieval drawings either. The question arises again and again in times of the economizing crisis: "Who does need this one art already?". I only can say that all of us see at the moment profit lasting values should be in demand and not the small-minded just in times of the crisis where has led this -- ring after this squint quite clearly! I perhaps simply would in conclusion like to quote King I Ludwig of Bavaria here: Who creates things for the posterity isn't an ordinary human being!
You made my day! Thank you very much for all compliments and to made me feeling like a 2 year old boy for a moment!
Thank you and I look forward to learn more about you even I am only an art lover but with passion.
Have an excellent start in the upcoming week.
